I’m deeply passionate about ensuring science, especially neuroscience, is in service of broader society.

This passion motivates my interests in science communication, public engagement, and neuroethics.

I’m currently a UCLA-CDU Dana Center for Neuroscience and Society Fellow. Together with this cross-disciplinary group, I help to reimagine the way we do neuroscience, train neuroscientists, and engage with our communities — all in service of a more community-partnered neuroscience.

In this role, I’m developing a workshop designed to help neuroscience grad students:

1) Consider the values motivating their interests in science communication; and

2) Learn about diverse, public-facing career opportunities in policy, journalism, and more.

Now

I’m co-lead of the INS Public Communications & Publishing affinity group. Our group is currently working on a digital Neuroethics Magazine for a public audience. Read our two issues and share with your friends and family:

Our affinity group also hosts an annual Neuroethics Book Club discussion. Last year, we explored Conviction: The Making and Unmaking of the Violent Brain with author Dr. Oliver Rollins.

Previously, I was a member of the INS Student/Postdoc Committee, which judges the Neuroethics Essay Contest for early career researchers each year. I placed first in the general audience category of the 2021 contest; check out my essay on false memory (inspired by a great AJOBN article by Liv & Greenbaum!)

Finally, I’m a former INS communications intern, serving as the primary editor for the society’s biweekly newsletter.

Previously…

From 2021-2022, I was Managing Editorial Intern for the American Journal of Bioethics Neuroscience, overseeing the peer review pipeline for this specialty journal.

From 2019-2021, I was an intern for the now-retired Neuroethics Blog. I enjoyed several roles at the blog, including contributor, copy editor, and social media manager.

Check out my four archived blog articles:

  • Ethics of Memory Research: Honoring Privacy with Dr. Peggy L. St. Jacques

  • Ethics of Memory Research: The Scientist and Society with Dr. Ashleigh Maxcey

  • R. L. Rabb Symposium on Embedding AI in Society Summary

  • Memory on Trial: fMRI Pattern Analysis and Mental Privacy

In 2023, I appeared on a special season of the Neuroethics Today podcast highlighting social justice and neuroethics. I was a co-host for the ‘Environmental Neuroethics’ episode, and a guest for the closing episode reflecting on the 2021 INS Annual Meeting.
